
The Ghana Weightlifting Federation has officially launched the 2025 African Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championship, set to be hosted in Accra.
The launch ceremony took place at the boardroom of the Ghana Olympic Committee, where Federation President, Hon. Jerry Ahmed Shaib, reaffirmed Ghana’s readiness to host the prestigious continental event.
Speaking to the media, Hon. Shaib disclosed that the African Weightlifting Federation has contributed $15,000 to support the organisation of the championship.
The tournament, scheduled for August 15 to 22, 2025, is expected to attract over 20 participating countries, with approximately 300 athletes and officials expected to converge in Ghana for the competition.
Ghana’s hosting of the championship is seen as a major step toward promoting youth sports and elevating the country’s profile on the African sporting stage.
