The Accra High Court has refused a bail application filed by senior nursing officer Salomey Awiti Baffoe, who is facing a charge of abetment of crime in connection with the alleged publication and circulation of false news on social media.
The court reportedly held that the case involves cyber-related investigations and that releasing Ms Bafoh at this stage presents a real risk of her interfering with witnesses.
The court has, however, directed the prosecution to expedite its investigations.
Ms Baffoe was arrested in September and subsequently arraigned before the Adentan Circuit Court, where she pleaded not guilty to a charge of abetment of crime, specifically the alleged publication of false news under Sections 20(1) and 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
The prosecution alleges that Ms Bafoh acted as a liaison for UK-based TikTok personality Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, popularly known as “Ghana Jollof,” and assisted in recruiting people to redistribute videos produced by her on various social media platforms.
Police have also alleged that investigations uncovered financial transactions between the two women, with Ms Kodua allegedly sending money to Ms Bafoh to facilitate the distribution of the videos.
The Police say portions of the money were subsequently distributed to other people involved in circulating the content.
The Police have been investigating Ms Kodua over alleged publication of false news, inciteful comments and offensive conduct. Authorities have also declared her wanted as investigations continue.
Ms Baffoe was initially denied bail by the Adentan Circuit Court and remanded into police custody for two weeks. She is scheduled to reappear before that court on September 30, 2026.
The allegations against Ms Baffoe have not been established by the court, and she has pleaded not guilty to the charge.
