Ghana has donated 40 metric tonnes of premium cocoa products to the people of Palestine in a strong gesture of humanitarian support and solidarity amid the ongoing crisis in Gaza.
The donation, comprising Golden Tree chocolates and other cocoa-based items, was presented to the Palestinian Ambassador to Ghana, Abdul Fattah Ahmed Khalil Al-Sattari, at a brief ceremony at the Jubilee House on Friday, August 1, 2025.
President John Dramani Mahama, who handed over the items, described the gesture as both symbolic and practical, reflecting Ghana’s enduring friendship with the people of Palestine.
“Cocoa is one of Ghana’s most treasured natural commodities, representing our values of resilience, warmth, and generosity,” President Mahama said. “It is also a powerful superfood, rich in antioxidants and essential minerals. We hope it brings nourishment and comfort to families facing unimaginable hardship in Gaza.”
He highlighted Ghana’s long-standing relationship with Palestine, including the opening of the Palestine Liberation Organization’s office in Accra in 1986, and recent diplomatic engagements such as the visit of Ghana’s Chief Justice and Advisor on Religious Affairs to Palestinian President Dr. Mahmoud Siddiqui Al-Habash.
President Mahama reaffirmed Ghana’s support for peace in the region, stressing the country’s continued backing of a two-state solution in line with United Nations resolutions.
He also commended the Palestinian community in Ghana for their contributions to national development, citing their support in constructing school blocks in underserved areas.
The donation was facilitated by the Ghana Cocoa Board and the Cocoa Processing Company, with support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.
Ambassador Al-Sattari expressed deep gratitude to the Ghanaian government and people, describing the gesture as a beacon of hope for families in Gaza.
“You cannot imagine the joy this chocolate will bring. For two years, many in Gaza have been starving due to the blockade. If they only see the chocolate, it will bring happiness. If they taste it, it will bring even more joy,” he said.
He also thanked other nations, including Egypt and France, for supporting a two-state solution and called for renewed international commitment to ending the humanitarian crisis.
The ceremony was attended by senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and representatives from humanitarian organizations.
