The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised members of the Tijjaniya Muslim Movement of Ghana travelling to Senegal for pilgrimage to exercise heightened caution when making their travel arrangements.

In a travel advisory dated August 21, 2026, the Ministry said Senegal remains safe for travellers but raised concerns about the security situation along some road corridors leading to Dakar.

The Ministry said the concerns were particularly relevant to travellers undertaking long-distance journeys by road.

It has therefore urged prospective pilgrims and other travellers to consider air travel as the preferred and safer means of transportation.

Those who have already made arrangements to travel by road have also been advised to reconsider their plans and opt for air travel instead.

“The Ministry urges the Tijjaniya Muslim pilgrims as well as prospective travellers to adhere to this advisory and prioritise their personal safety and security,” the statement said.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry assured the public that it remains committed to the welfare, safety and protection of Ghanaian nationals.

It added that it would continue to monitor developments closely in collaboration with relevant international partners.
