Ghana and Morocco have strengthened their bilateral relations by establishing cooperation in key sectors, including air transport, maritime, and railway development, aimed at boosting their respective economies.
The progress is a result of continuous high-level engagements between Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and Morocco’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdessamad Kayouh.
Mr Ablakwa expressed satisfaction over Ghana’s strides in deepening partnerships with its allies, emphasizing the need for even closer collaboration to enhance mutual economic growth. He noted that such efforts are critical in advancing Africa’s goal of self-reliance.
“We must continue to work in a win-win spirit to achieve the continent’s aspirations for unity and self-sufficiency,” Mr Ablakwa said.
Welcoming his Ghanaian counterpart, Minister Kayouh commended Ghana for its growing influence and economic achievements on the continent.
As part of the new cooperation agreements, Air Maroc will extend its direct flight operations to Ghana. Additionally, plans are underway for collaboration in railway development and maritime services.
Speaking to the media in Morocco, Mr Ablakwa expressed optimism about the cooperation, stating it will directly benefit citizens in both countries and contribute to making Ghana and Morocco better places to live.
Significantly, the cooperation includes a visa-free travel arrangement for Ghanaian nationals, eliminating the need for passports when traveling to Morocco.
Mr Ablakwa stressed that sustainable growth across Africa must begin at the national level, urging other African countries to draw up practical plans that promote unity and shared economic progress.
He is scheduled to meet with several African leaders and Foreign Affairs Ministers to advance the conversation around Africa’s intercontinental growth and integration agenda.
