GFA to unveil new Premier League sponsor and TV partner – Okraku

-

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has hinted that a new headline sponsor and broadcast partner for the Ghana Premier League (GPL) will be unveiled soon.

The top-flight league has been without a main sponsor since betting company betPawa abruptly ended its agreement with the GFA.

The deal, which was initially set for three years with annual renewal options, was terminated just three months into its tenure.

With only three games left in the 2024/25 GPL season, Mr. Okraku, who also serves as the 2nd Vice President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), assured fans and stakeholders during an interview with GHOne TV that efforts are underway to secure new partnerships.

“The Ghana Football Association has been working around the clock to get sponsors for the league, and it will come soon.”

On the broadcasting front, the GPL is also currently without an official television partner following the termination of its contract with StarTimes.

Addressing the issue, Mr. Okraku added, “Our Premier League is interesting enough to attract TV partners, and we will announce a new partner soon.”

Explaining the breakdown of the previous broadcast agreement, he disclosed: “We have ended our partnership with StarTimes. They owe the GFA $950,000.”

In the meantime, several local TV stations — including Adom TV, Net2 TV, Metro TV, Original TV, and Globe TV — have stepped in to broadcast GPL and FA Cup matches.

The GFA remains optimistic that the upcoming sponsorship and broadcast deals will revitalise the league and restore stakeholder confidence.
