Ghana Football Association (GFA) General Secretary, Prosper Harrison Addo, says the push to extend the presidential term limit came from clubs and other member bodies, not the GFA itself.
His comments follow a proposal by the GFA’s Statute Review Committee recommending an increase in the presidential term from two to three terms. The proposal is expected to be considered at the 31st Ordinary Congress slated for August 12, 2025, at the Ghanaman Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Harrison Addo addressed speculation that the proposal was aimed at paving the way for current GFA President Kurt Okraku to seek a third term.
“The decision to extend the Ghana Football Association presidential term in office was proposed by clubs, RAG [Regional Associations Group] leadership, and other congress members,” he said.
“This wasn’t initiated by the GFA. In fact, the proposal was made three years ago,” he added.
The final decision on the matter will be made at the upcoming Congress meeting.
