The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has reiterated its firm support for Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren, despite the team’s semi-final exit from the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Ghana’s hopes of reaching the final were dashed following a tense 4-2 penalty shootout defeat to hosts Morocco after a hard-fought draw on Tuesday night.
Reacting to the loss, GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum took to social media to applaud the team’s spirited performance, emphasising the significance of Ghana’s return to WAFCON after a seven-year absence.
While acknowledging some internal issues that the Association intends to address privately, Asante Twum expressed confidence in Coach Björkegren’s leadership and reaffirmed the GFA’s backing for him and the entire squad.
The Black Queens will now turn their attention to the third-place playoff against South Africa on Friday, July 25, at the Stade Larbi Zaouli. Kickoff is set for 19:00 GMT.
The GFA believes the team’s strong showing in the tournament lays a promising foundation for future success.
