Around 40 UK-based footballers of Ghanaian heritage participated in the Ghana Football Association’s maiden UK Talent ID camp as the association intensifies efforts to build a stronger future Black Stars squad.
The camp, which was held in Bromley, brought together players between the U15 and U20 age groups who are currently developing in some of England’s top Category One academies.
Several highly-rated prospects from clubs including Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City and Everton took part in the programme, giving Ghana’s technical team the opportunity to assess some of the most promising dual-national talents in the United Kingdom.
The event was organised through a partnership involving the GFA, Coach Hene Sporting Club, Ghanaians in the UK and Prince Lamona Consult.
GFA Technical Director Prof. Joseph Kwame Mintah and FIFA Talent Coach Stuart McLaren supervised the sessions alongside coaches from Coach Hene Sporting Club, monitoring and evaluating the players throughout the camp.
The initiative forms part of the GFA’s long-term strategy to identify Ghanaian talents abroad at an early stage and strengthen connections between such players and the various national teams.
Many of the participants are already attached to elite academies known for producing Premier League stars and senior internationals, making the exercise an important opportunity for Ghana to monitor their development closely.
With several European countries increasingly competing for the services of dual-national players, the GFA has stepped up its overseas scouting efforts in a bid to widen its talent pool.
The camp also offered the players a platform to showcase their abilities directly to Ghana’s technical handlers while gaining insight into the pathway towards representing Ghana at both youth and senior levels.
Following the success of the maiden edition, the GFA is expected to continue monitoring the players as part of a broader project aimed at strengthening Ghana’s youth and senior national teams in the coming years.
