GFA Executive clarifies it does not manage Black Stars’ budget

Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Nana Oduro Sarfo, has clarified that the association is not responsible for managing expenditure related to the Black Stars.

His remarks follow criticism after Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Adams, revealed that the government had reduced the Black Stars’ budget for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers from $2 million to $1.3 million.

Speaking to Oyerepa FM, Oduro Sarfo emphasized that all funds for the national team are handled by the Ministry of Sports, not the GFA.

“When Black Stars budgets are approved, the funds are paid directly into the Ministry’s accounts, not the GFA’s,” he said. “So let’s not twist the narrative to make it appear as though the GFA crafted these budgets to line its own pockets.”

Among the cancelled provisions in the revised budget are a $10,000 winning bonus for each member of the Black Stars management committee and a $5,000 allocation for fuel.

The Black Stars are currently in N’Djamena to face Chad on Thursday, September 4, before returning to Accra to host Mali on Monday, September 8, for Matchday 7 and 8 qualifiers.
