The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced enhanced welfare packages for referees ahead of the 2025/26 football season.
The measures, unveiled by GFA President Kurt Okraku at the Association’s 31st Ordinary Congress in Prampram, include increased match allowances and a comprehensive insurance policy.
Under the new arrangement, FIFA-accredited referees will receive ₵2,500 per match, while non-FIFA referees will earn ₵2,000 per game across the Ghana Premier League (GPL), Division One League (DOL), and Women’s Premier League (WPL).
“Our referees deserve more attention. They deserve our support, and their well-being is very important,” Okraku said. “Going into the new season, referees will take centre stage in terms of welfare.”
The GFA has also rolled out a holistic insurance plan covering all 280 referees in the three major domestic competitions. The package includes group life cover, critical illness protection, permanent disability benefits, medical expense coverage, and workman’s compensation.
Additional provisions extend to spouse, child, and parent benefits, as well as funeral support. From the 2026/27 season, the scheme will also be extended to match commissioners.
