The Ghana Education Service has issued a strong caution to heads of Senior High Schools and Technical Schools over the unauthorised registration of students for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

In a statement signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of the Public Relations Unit, and released in Accra on January 8, 2026, the Service expressed worry about reports that some school authorities are allegedly registering Form Two students and private candidates for the examination in return for fees.

The statement explained that this conduct breaches the rules governing WASSCE registration.

It further clarified that only final-year students whose academic journey from the first to the third year can be clearly verified in a school’s records are permitted to be registered by school authorities.

“No head of school or official, it stressed, is allowed under any circumstance to register Form Two students or private candidates,” it added.

The GES described the practice as clear misconduct and an abuse of office, especially in instances where money is collected to enable such illegal registration.

It cautioned school heads and officials to immediately stop the act and warned that those found to have engaged in it will face serious sanctions.

Disciplinary measures, it added, will be applied strictly in accordance with GES and West African Examinations Council regulations, without exceptions.
