The Human Trafficking Secretariat (HTS) of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has organised a capacity-building training session for selected staff to strengthen the Ministry’s response to human trafficking.

The training, held in collaboration with law firm Zoe, Akyea & Co., forms part of ongoing efforts to deepen institutional understanding and enhance the ability of staff to effectively combat the crime.

The session moved beyond general awareness, focusing on equipping participants with practical knowledge on the nature, causes and impact of human trafficking, as well as strategies for prevention and response.

A key highlight of the training was the application of the 4Ps framework—Prevention, Protection, Prosecution and Partnership—aimed at promoting a coordinated and comprehensive institutional approach to tackling trafficking.

Head of the Human Trafficking Secretariat, Madam Abena Annobea Asare, described the initiative as a critical step in empowering staff with the necessary tools to identify, prevent and respond to trafficking cases.

She noted that building internal capacity is essential to ensuring a more effective and proactive response to the growing threat of human trafficking.

Officials from Zoe, Akyea & Co. delivered technical and legal presentations, providing insights into both national and international legal frameworks governing human trafficking.

Through interactive sessions and case studies, participants were also taken through the prosecution process, victims’ rights and the importance of collaboration with legal stakeholders.

The training is expected to improve decision-making, strengthen inter-departmental coordination and enhance the Ministry’s overall efforts in addressing human trafficking and protecting vulnerable individuals.
