The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has extended support to Bridget, a survivor of the devastating June 2026 floods in Accra who lost her two children, home and means of livelihood.
The intervention, under the leadership of the Sector Minister, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, is aimed at helping Bridget recover from the devastating impact of the tragedy and rebuild her life.
As part of the support package, the Ministry has provided one year’s rent to give her a secure place to stay as she begins the recovery process.
The Ministry has also provided start-up capital to enable her to re-establish a livelihood and engage in business, with the aim of helping her regain financial independence.
Beyond the material assistance, a Clinical Psychologist from the Ministry will provide periodic psychosocial support to help Bridget cope with the trauma and grief following the loss of her children.
The Ministry has also expressed appreciation to individuals, organisations and well-wishers who have supported Bridget since the tragedy and provided her with relief during the difficult period.
Although the road to recovery remains challenging, the Ministry says the support will provide Bridget with a stronger foundation to begin rebuilding her life, with access to shelter, livelihood assistance and continued psychosocial care.
