The Presiding Bishop of Victory Bible Church International, Bishop N. A. Tackie-Yarboi, has stated that while moral advocacy against illegal mining (galamsey) is important, the ultimate responsibility for ending the menace rests with the government and the enforcement of the law.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Bishop Tackie-Yarboi said the church can only contribute from a moral standpoint, but real change will require stronger legal and institutional action.
“The thing about the galamsey issue is that we’ll need a lot of help because the church comes from a moral angle. We can preach and advise our members, but government must also do better,” he said.
He emphasized the need for effective legislation and enforcement, noting that moral appeals alone cannot solve the problem.
“Talking is one thing; practical action is another. The challenges on the ground differ, so we need laws that work and are properly enforced,” he added.
