The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has arrested four soldiers for conducting illegal raids at Simpa Junction in the Tarkwa Nsuaem District of the Western Region.
The arrests were made during a tactical operation on Monday, August 18, 2025.
According to officials, the taskforce seized the weapons and equipment of the errant soldiers, who had been carrying out unauthorized raids.
The four suspects are believed to be members of outlawed groups that conduct illegal anti-mining operations in the region under the guise of National Security.
In a statement, the Lands Ministry disclosed that the suspects have been handed over to the 2nd Infantry Battalion of the Ghana Armed Forces at Apremdo for investigations and appropriate disciplinary action.
The arrest is expected to bring relief to legitimate mining companies and individuals engaged in lawful businesses in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality.
Meanwhile, NAIMOS says it will continue aggressive operations with other state security agencies to tackle the galamsey menace, while government has pledged its commitment to the fight against illegal mining and its associated effects.
