The Member of Parliament for Akrofuom, Joseph Azumah, has cautioned that the ongoing fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, could have political repercussions for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2028 general elections.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, the MP admitted that the anti-galamsey campaign is a difficult but necessary battle.
“I know that this galamsey fight will affect the NDC in the next elections because it’s not an easy battle. If you are fighting galamsey, you must be ready for the consequences,” he said.
Mr. Azumah noted that many communities have come to rely on galamsey as their main source of livelihood, making the fight even more challenging.
“What government is supposed to do, it is doing, but the people themselves are not ready for change,” he added.
