
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has commenced a full-scale investigation into the military helicopter crash that claimed eight lives on Wednesday, August 6, in the Dampia Range Forest Reserve in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.
The tragedy resulted in the deaths of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment, Science and Technology Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and six others on board.
In a statement, the GAF revealed that the Z-9 helicopter, which departed Accra at 9:12 a.m. en route to Obuasi, went down near Sikaman in the Adansi Akrofuom area.
Rescue teams confirmed that all passengers and crew perished, with their remains—including charred bodies—recovered from the crash site.

The GAF extended its condolences to the bereaved families and assured the public that aviation safety experts, Air Force technical teams, and independent assessors have already begun work to determine the cause of the crash.
“Investigations have commenced to determine the cause of the accident,” the statement confirmed, adding that the review will include flight data analysis and an inspection of the helicopter’s maintenance records.
