The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed that the bodies of the eight individuals who died in the Z-9 military helicopter crash have been transported to Accra.

The crash occurred near Sikaman, close to Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region.

On Wednesday, August 6, the remains were airlifted aboard a Ghana Air Force Casa aircraft and received at the Air Force Base in Accra by a solemn delegation. Chief of Staff Julius Debrah led the government delegation, accompanied by the Military High Command and several sympathisers.

A statement signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations for the GAF, said the bodies have since been taken to the 37 Military Hospital to begin burial preparations.

“We express our gratitude to the people of Sikaman and all security services for their cooperation during the recovery operation,” the statement noted.

The tragic crash has sparked widespread grief across the country, with many mourning the deaths of servicemen and officials who died in the line of duty.

Deputy Minister for Defence, Brogya Genfi, speaking on behalf of the Military High Command, expressed condolences to the affected families, describing the event as a heartbreaking national loss.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families during this painful period,” he said.
