Gabby Otchere-Darko slams Arsenal over Thomas Partey’s imminent exit

Prominent Ghanaian politician and die-hard Arsenal supporter, Gabby Otchere-Darko, has criticised the club for what he describes as disrespectful treatment of Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey.

His comments come in the wake of widespread reports suggesting that Partey will part ways with Arsenal at the end of June, bringing his four-year stay at the club to a close.

The 31-year-old joined the Gunners from Atlético Madrid in 2020.

Despite ongoing talks between Partey’s camp and the club regarding a contract extension, both sides have reportedly failed to reach an agreement.

Arsenal are now said to be closing in on a deal to sign Brentford captain Christian Nørgaard as a replacement.

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Otchere-Darko expressed his disappointment over the situation, insisting that Partey’s potential departure is rooted in a lack of respect rather than financial motives.

“The Thomas Partey I know has not left Arsenal because of more money. It is more because of disrespect. The club knew when his contract was expiring, but was more interested in finding a replacement than courting him to stay. His preference would have been to stay in London with his young and growing family. The club does not give him the respect he deserves, even against what the stats clearly say.”

He added that Partey, who has a young family, would have preferred to remain in London, but felt undervalued by the club despite strong performances.

“I love Arsenal, but Thomas deserved better and he will be dearly missed.”
