From family legacy to community impact: Mawuleme Bakery relaunches with street trolleys and a 1% pledge for sanitation

What began a decade ago as a small family bakery has now returned with a bold, purpose-driven transformation. Formerly known as Shalom Bakery, the business has officially relaunched as Mawuleme Bakery, combining tradition with innovation to meet the evolving needs of today’s consumers—right from the streets of Accra.

Covering the relaunch, media personality, and entrepreneur Prince Yao Amevi described the moment as “more than a rebranding—it’s a reaffirmation of family values, local enterprise, and social responsibility.”

“Mawuleme Bakery is rewriting the script on how small businesses can grow—without losing their soul,” said Prince Yao Amevi. “It’s a beautiful blend of honouring a mother’s legacy while responding to real market needs with creativity and compassion.”

The relaunch introduces mobile bread trolleys—well-branded and fully equipped carts that will deliver fresh loaves directly to customers in busy neighbourhoods, markets, and transport terminals. This model bridges the gap between accessibility and hygiene, reviving the charm of street bread vending in a more structured and modern way.

Alongside the popular Tea and Sugar Bead breads, the bakery has rolled out six new bread varieties—Coconut, peanut, oats, turmeric, Tuna, and Carrot—designed to appeal to health-conscious consumers and adventurous palates alike.

But what truly sets Mawuleme Bakery apart is its clear commitment to giving back. One per cent (1%) of monthly profits will be invested in community sanitation projects, starting with regular clean-up exercises around Dome and surrounding areas.

“This isn’t just a bakery. It’s a movement built around bread, community, and responsibility,” Prince Amevi added.

The relaunch also held emotional significance for the family, as it coincided with the birthday of the late founder, Mrs. Bertha, whose entrepreneurial vision started it all. Her daughter, Millicent, now leads the business with the same passion and dedication, driving it into a future where purpose matters as much as product.

Mawuleme Bakery is now fully operational at Dome Junction, with street trolleys set to begin rounds this month. Customers are encouraged to visit, try the new flavours, and support a local brand rooted in love, service, and growth.
