Four arrested in Tema as Police seize 315 parcels of suspected Indian hemp

The Tema Community 1 District Police have arrested four men after 315 compressed parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp were discovered hidden in the tyres of a truck.

The suspects — Nura Sali, 44; Pius Chukwuma, 49; Mustapha Umar, 18; and Abdulai Amayau, 23 — were picked up on Monday, September 8, 2025, following a police tip-off.

According to a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs at the Tema Regional Police Command, ASP Dede Dzakpasu, the truck with registration number GN 7291-16 has been impounded, and the suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.

“The Regional Police Command commends the arresting officers for their professionalism and reiterates its resolve to combat drug-related offences in order to safeguard our communities,” the statement read.

The Command has urged members of the public to remain alert and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station for swift action.
