The former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Nkwanta South in the Oti Region, Felix Owusu Gyimah, has expressed deep appreciation to all gallant farmers for their unwavering dedication to agriculture despite the many challenges they face, as Ghana marks its 41st Farmers’ Day celebration.

He emphasized that the backbone of the nation’s food security and sustenance relies heavily on the tireless efforts of both men and women in the agricultural sector.

According to him, farmers endure unpredictable weather conditions, limited resources, and numerous hardships, yet they continue to work with resilience and hope — a commitment that deserves national recognition.

“Your hard work nourishes families, supports livelihoods, and contributes immensely to the growth and stability of our country,” he stated.

He added that it is through the selfless labour of farmers that Ghana continues to progress.

As the country honours their contributions, the former MCE prayed for a more productive and prosperous farming season in the years ahead. He wished farmers timely rains, fertile soils, abundant harvests, and rewards that reflect their vital role in national development.

Mr. Owusu Gyimah also appealed to the government to make farm inputs readily available to encourage more young people to venture into farming as a business, stressing that this would help address the country’s unemployment challenges.

He highlighted the interventions introduced under the leadership of president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, such as Planting for Food and Jobs, Rearing for Export, One District One Factory, free fertilizer support, and other agricultural initiatives that improved the nation’s food security.

He further urged President Mahama and the current NDC government to prioritize the welfare of farmers to help mitigate the challenges they currently face.

Felix Owusu Gyimah expressed concern over the increasing post-harvest losses, especially among farmers dealing in grains such as maize, rice, sorghum, millet, and other cereals, which often struggle to find ready markets. He called on the government to implement effective measures to avert any potential food crisis.
