Former Member of Parliament for Ablekuma Central, Ebenezer Gilbert Nii Narh Nartey, has urged religious bodies and leaders to speak out on the passage of the LGBTQ+ Bill.
In a letter dated April 7, 2026, Nartey expressed concern over what he described as the silence of clergy and faith-based organisations on the issue, despite their strong opposition during the previous administration.
He recalled that several religious groups, including the Christian Council of Ghana and the National Chief Imam Office, had openly opposed LGBTQ practices and advocated for the bill’s passage.
According to Nartey, the current silence creates an impression of inconsistency and may be perceived as unfair by the public.
He called on religious leaders to use the same platforms they previously engaged to ensure that the current administration fulfils its commitments regarding the bill.
Nartey also urged civil society organisations to remain active on the issue, stressing the need for accountability and consistency in national discourse.
