Former GIHOC boss Kofi Jumah reportedly arrested

National Security operatives have reportedly arrested the former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries, Maxwell Kofi Jumah.

A report by Accra-based Citi News indicates that Mr. Jumah was picked up at his residence in Kumasi on Sunday, June 29, 2025.

The arrest followed a request by operatives to speak with him. He was subsequently transported in a pickup truck to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, where he is currently in custody.

This development comes weeks after National Security operatives, on May 15, 2025, raided Mr. Jumah’s residence in his absence in an attempt to recover state vehicles allegedly in his possession.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart is said to be under investigation for alleged financial impropriety during his tenure as head of the state-owned distillery.

The allegations include the questionable acquisition of state vehicles and the mismanagement of company assets.

Mr. Jumah is also accused of inflating the staff population at GIHOC, which placed a financial strain on the company, and of selling company properties in Tema valued at over $700,000 without proper authorisation.
