Former Deputy GES boss donates 2,000 books to Goaso basic schools

Dr. Kwabena Bempah Tandoh, former Deputy Director-General for Quality and Access at the Ghana Education Service (GES), has donated 2,000 reading books to five basic schools in Goaso, Ahafo Region, to improve pupils’ literacy and academic performance.

The beneficiary schools, Methodist, Anglican, Presby, Roman Catholic, and Islamic basic schools, received the books at a brief presentation ceremony.

Speaking to Adom News, Dr. Tandoh highlighted the importance of reading in education, stressing that strong reading skills are essential for success at all levels of learning.

He said the initiative was to support efforts aimed at promoting literacy among young learners.

He expressed gratitude to former Second Lady Samira Bawumia and former Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh for their roles in making the donation possible, describing the gesture as an investment in the future of the children.

Linda Berchie, Headteacher of Goaso Methodist Basic School, received the books on behalf of the schools and thanked Dr. Tandoh for the support.

She noted that the lack of reading materials had hindered effective implementation of the early morning reading policy and expressed optimism that the books would help raise educational standards in the area.
