Former Buem MP urges Akwatia voters to elect NDC in by-election for development

Acting Executive Director of the Complementary Education Agency (CEA) and former Member of Parliament for Buem, Daniel Kwesi Ashiamah, has appealed to residents of the Akwatia Constituency to vote for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming by-election to ensure accelerated development.

Speaking on 3FM, Mr. Ashiamah said the most meaningful way to honour the late MP, Ernest Kumi, was not only through mourning but by making a political choice that would bring progress to the area.

“We will use the remembrance of Ernest Kumi to give you more of the national cake. You can wear black and mourn your loss, but go out and vote for the NDC candidate so you’ll be part of the Big Push and Reset Agenda,” he stated.

Mr. Ashiamah rejected claims that the NDC’s appeal was merely aimed at increasing its numbers in Parliament, insisting that the party’s focus was on including Akwatia in its broader national development vision.

“It’s not because we want a two-thirds majority in Parliament. We want you to join the resetting group,” he explained.

He added that voting for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which currently holds a minority in Parliament, would be less beneficial for the people of Akwatia.

“Joining the small number in Parliament won’t help Akwatia. Join those who know the road. The person who replaces Ernest Kumi must come from the ruling party so we can deliver the development you deserve,” he said.

The Electoral Commission has scheduled the by-election for Tuesday, September 2, 2025, following the passing of Ernest Kumi.

The NPP has selected its constituency treasurer, Solomon Asumadu, as its candidate, while the NDC is set to elect its candidate in a primary on August 4.
