Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has refuted reports circulating on social media alleging that he approved a $5.2 million contract to renovate Ghana’s embassy in Benin.
In a Facebook post on Monday, September 8, Mr. Ablakwa described the claims as false and urged the public to disregard them.
“Treat with utter contempt the false claims that I have awarded a renovation contract for our embassy in Benin at a cost of US$5.2 million,” he wrote.
The Minister clarified that since assuming office, he has not awarded any renovation or construction contracts for Ghanaian embassies worldwide. He further disclosed that he cancelled a controversial $3.5 million single-source contract for renovation works at Ghana’s embassy in Abidjan, which had been approved in November 2024.
Mr. Ablakwa emphasized that his tenure has been guided by fiscal discipline and the protection of public funds, in line with President John Mahama’s “Reset Agenda.”
“I shall never betray the trust of the Ghanaian people as we work tirelessly, and with integrity, to achieve President Mahama’s Reset Agenda,” he assured.
