The Member of Parliament for North Tongu and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has commissioned a modern, fully furnished kindergarten block in Aveyime in the North Tongu District.
This brings the total number of kindergarten projects spearheaded by the MP in recent years to 20.
According to the Minister, the project forms part of the GHS 1 million spent this year under his education improvement initiative in the district.
The Aveyime D/A Methodist KG/Primary is one of the oldest basic schools in North Tongu, having been established in 1910. Despite its long history, the school has operated with only a six-unit classroom block for years. Both the primary and kindergarten classes have been housed in a single makeshift structure, making teaching and learning extremely challenging.
With a current student population of 467, overcrowding remains a major issue in some classrooms. To create a conducive learning environment for young learners at the kindergarten level, the MP has constructed and furnished a new block for the Aveyime D/A Methodist KG/Primary School.
The new facility includes 100-capacity classrooms, teachers’ offices, a kitchen, washrooms, a storeroom, poly tanks, and a playground.
The Headmaster of the school, Essau Gafleku, praised the Minister and appealed for the provision of computers to support ICT teaching and learning.
The District Chief Executive, Madam Victoria Doe, also lauded the intervention, stating that the facility will go a long way to improve teaching and learning at the basic level. She pledged the assembly’s support to expand education infrastructure and develop other sectors in line with the government’s broader interventions.
Hon. Ablakwa reaffirmed his commitment to supporting and investing in education in the North Tongu District, highlighting the immense benefits of an educated society. He also mentioned other ongoing projects and support initiatives, including GHS 145,000 worth of scholarships awarded to tertiary students.
Meanwhile, the young learners could not hide their joy as they moved into their new learning environment with excitement.
