Police in the Western North Region have arrested five suspected armed robbers believed to be behind a series of attacks in Sefwi Bekwai and surrounding communities.

The suspects; Iddrisu Abdalla, 20; Abdul Rahaman Abubakar, 21; Okasha Mohammed, 19; Toffic Bawa, 24; and Richard Gyapong, 35, were picked up during an intelligence-led operation aimed at curbing rising robbery cases in the area.

According to the Regional Police Command, three of the suspects were first intercepted while riding an unregistered motorbike.

They reportedly failed to stop at the Mpesiem Police snap checkpoint, triggering a pursuit that led to their arrest. Further operations at their residences resulted in the arrest of two additional accomplices.

A search of their rooms uncovered a backpack filled with talismans, a face mask, and several finger rings, items police suspect the group used to bolster their criminal activities.

Preliminary investigations have already linked the five men to multiple robbery incidents around Sefwi Bekwai. Police say the suspects are cooperating with investigators as efforts continue to unravel the full extent of their operations.

All five remain in custody as the inquiry continues.
