Five injured as Dabokpa, Vittin Tech students clash; police recover weapons

Five students have reportedly sustained various degrees of injuries following a clash between Dabokpa Technical Institute and Vittin Technical Senior High School.

This was disclosed by Northern Regional Minister, Adolf John Ali, at the Northern Development Cause Forum in Tamale.

However, according to Chief Inspector Lukman Neindow, Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, police reports indicated that only one student from Dabokpa Technical Institute was wounded and taken to the hospital.

He said the police were called in around 2:30 a.m. on July 19, 2025, regarding the clash between the two schools. The command subsequently deployed officers to the scene.

Chief Inspector Neindow stated that the rioting involved students pelting stones at each other, adding that the cause of the clash is yet to be determined. Portions of the fence wall of Vittin Technical Senior High School were also destroyed.

He said the police have since restored calm to the area, and a 24-hour police guard has been stationed between the two neighboring schools to prevent further violence.

A search conducted in the dormitories of the two schools uncovered implements, including scissors and machetes.

No arrests have been made so far. Police are reviewing footage of the incident, and the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) is currently holding a meeting on the matter.
