The Kade District Court has remanded five individuals in connection with the assault on Michael Quayson, a teacher at Kade Senior High Technical School in the Eastern Region.
The incident, which has raised widespread concern within the education community, was addressed in court on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. Four of the accused, all adults, were remanded into prison custody after pleading guilty.
A fifth accused, aged 17, was remanded into police custody, with the case set to be transferred to a Juvenile Court.
All five are expected to reappear in court on January 20, 2026.
In a statement, the Ghana Education Service (GES) praised the swift legal action, saying it reflects the Ministry of Education and GES’s commitment to protecting teachers and maintaining discipline in schools.
The Service cautioned students and the public against any form of attack on educators, warning that such actions will face firm legal consequences. GES also reaffirmed its dedication to safeguarding teachers and upholding the integrity of national examinations, including the WASSCE.
