Firefighters from the Anfoega Fire Station in the Volta Region averted a potential disaster after a premixed fuel tanker overturned at Fume on Christmas Day.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said the incident occurred on December 25, 2025, when a fuel tanker with registration number GR-9619-12 suffered brake failure and lost control while in transit.

A response team led by Station Officer II Franklin Soglo was quickly deployed to the scene.

Upon arrival, firefighters shut down the tanker’s engine and applied foam to cool the vehicle and contain fuel spillage, a move that prevented a possible explosion and reduced further risk to road users.

The timely intervention also helped to restore traffic flow along the stretch as safety measures were put in place.

A towing truck from the Volta Regional Fire Headquarters later arrived to remove the damaged tanker from the roadway. GNFS reported that although the tanker sustained significant damage, only minor injuries were recorded.

The Service commended the professionalism of the response team and reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives, property and critical infrastructure across the country.
