A fire tender from the Central Gonja District of the Ghana National Fire Service has been involved in an accident while responding to a fire outbreak at the Buipe lorry station in the Savannah Region.
Eyewitnesses say the fire crew was on its way to attend to a fire at a fuel joint when the fire tender somersaulted a few metres from the scene. The accident left residents helpless as they watched the fire continue to blaze.
Residents, with support from Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), quickly rushed to the scene and rescued the fire officers on board the vehicle.
Five crew members who sustained injuries were rushed to the Buipe District Government Hospital for medical treatment.
The fire tender has since been taken out of service, pending further assessment, as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.
