A dawn fire swept through several shops at Kantamanto’s Tazani Lane, near Ecobank in Accra, on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the emergency call was received around 1:31 a.m., prompting a swift response from multiple fire stations across the city.
The first firefighting truck reportedly arrived at 1:42 a.m., with teams battling intense flames for over three hours before managing to bring the situation under control.
Officials said the blaze was finally contained around 4:49 a.m. following what they described as “intensive firefighting operations.”
The Acting Chief Fire Officer, along with the Director of Operations and the Greater Accra Regional Commander, later visited the site to assess the extent of the damage and coordinate further response efforts.
No casualties have been reported, though losses are expected to be substantial given the area’s heavy commercial activity.
The GNFS has indicated that a detailed investigation will be carried out to identify the cause of the fire.
Kantamanto, known as one of Accra’s busiest trading centres, has experienced several fire outbreaks over the years, each causing widespread destruction and hardship for traders.
