A fire outbreak has destroyed the housemaster’s residence at Oyoko Methodist Senior High School in Koforidua, Eastern Region.
The incident occurred on Monday evening and gutted the entire residence, including the roof, ceiling, furniture, personal belongings, and home appliances.
Thanks to a swift response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the adjoining boys’ dormitory was saved from the flames.
The fire started around 6:30 p.m., prompting GNFS to deploy two fire engines to the scene. The first engine arrived at 6:34 p.m., brought the fire under control by 7:24 p.m., and completely extinguished it by 8:29 p.m.
No casualties were recorded.
Preliminary investigations by fire officials suggest the blaze may have been caused by an electrical fault in the ceiling of the residence. A full investigation is underway to determine the exact cause.
This marks the third reported fire incident in a public institution within the past 24 hours, raising renewed concerns about safety protocols on school campuses.
School authorities have commended the Ghana National Fire Service for their prompt and effective response, which averted a much larger disaster.
