Fire erupts behind VVIP station at Circle

A fire erupted behind the VVIP Station at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

The cause of the fire which is yet to be established destroyed about 50 shops and makeshift warehouses stocked mainly with phone accessories and other merchandise.

The fire quickly spread through structures that also served as homes and food vending points in the busy commercial enclave.

Traders and occupants were forced to flee as thick smoke and flames tore through the area.

Confirming the incident, Assistant Fire Officer Rashid Kwame Esau of the Ghana National Fire Service said preliminary information suggested the fire began from one of the kiosks within the cluster.

He explained that firefighters were still investigating what triggered the initial outbreak.

Residents and motorists in the area have been urged to exercise caution and avoid the vicinity until the fire is fully under control.
