Fire destroys wooden structures at Madina Ritz Junction slum

A fire outbreak at the Madina Ritz Junction slum on the evening of Monday, July 15, 2025, destroyed several wooden structures, affecting both residential and commercial units.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) received a distress call at 7:00 p.m. and responded within four minutes.

Firefighters from the Madina Fire Station, supported by teams from the Legon and Abelemkpe Stations, worked tirelessly to bring the blaze under control. The fire was fully extinguished after two hours.

The flames spread rapidly due to the densely packed wooden structures, posing significant challenges such as poor accessibility, multiple gas cylinder explosions, and the absence of nearby fire hydrants.

Despite these obstacles, no casualties or injuries were reported.

Although several structures and their contents were consumed by the fire, firefighters successfully prevented the flames from spreading to nearby properties.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the GNFS.
