A massive fire has gutted a warehouse and several nearby shops behind the Akyem Oda Supermarket in the Birim Central Municipality, causing millions of cedis in damages.
The warehouse, which stored goods ranging from men’s and women’s sandals to clothes and photo frames, was completely destroyed, along with adjacent shops operated by petty traders.

Madam Joyce Dompreh, whose shop was near the warehouse, told Adom News that she was alerted to the fire while at church.
“The fire spread so fast. I’m grateful to the Ghana Fire Service for their quick response, but the losses are huge for all of us,” she said.

Assistant Divisional Officer Grade 1 (ADO1) Ampadu Patrick, who led the Ghana National Fire Service team at the scene, noted that the large crowd hampered firefighting efforts.

He urged traders and residents to take precautionary measures to prevent similar incidents, particularly electrical fires.
Authorities are yet to estimate the total financial losses, and investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the blaze.
