Fire destroys studio of Kumasi-based Pure FM [Video]

A fire outbreak has severely damaged the studio of Kumasi-based Pure FM, forcing the temporary suspension of all its programming.

The incident occurred on Wednesday evening around 7:30 pm while the station was airing a live show.

General Manager and broadcaster, Kwame Adinkrah, confirmed the incident in an interview with Adom News. He explained that one of the DJs on duty first noticed smoke emanating from an air conditioning unit, which quickly caught fire.

The DJ initially attempted to extinguish the flames using a fire extinguisher in the studio, but the blaze spread rapidly due to the presence of flammable materials.

Despite efforts by bystanders and nearby shop owners who rushed in with additional extinguishers, the fire could not be contained until personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) arrived.

Adinkrah revealed that the DJ was briefly trapped inside the studio due to its digital locking system and the intensity of the smoke but managed to escape unharmed. He described the DJ’s survival as a “divine intervention.”

He further disclosed that while the structure of the building was preserved, all of the station’s equipment was destroyed. The only equipment unaffected was the transmitter, which is located in Patase.

On possible causes, Adinkrah noted that the station had been operating on a generator for most of the day due to a power outage in the area. Although power was later restored, it remains unclear whether a phase change contributed to the incident.

He apologised to listeners for the sudden disruption in broadcasts and assured the public of the station’s commitment to return soon.

Mr. Adinkrah also appealed to business partners and stakeholders for continued support and prayers during the station’s recovery.
