Fire destroys structures behind Arts Centre

-

Fire ripped through dozens of wooden structures located behind the Arts Centre in Accra on the evening of Tuesday, June 24, 2025, destroying over 50 units.

The incident occurred directly opposite the National Lotteries office and drew a swift emergency response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

The fire, which was reported at 6:20 p.m., was already well advanced by the time the Ministries Fire Station crew arrived at 6:26 p.m.

Due to non-functional fire hydrants in the area, four additional fire tenders had to be dispatched from the Electoral Commission, Accra City, Parliament House, and the Greater Accra Regional Headquarters to assist in the containment efforts.

Under the supervision of ACFO II Osmond Anum and Greater Accra Regional Fire Commander ACFO II Rashid Nisawu, the GNFS managed to bring the blaze under control in two hours.

Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were recorded, although property and structures were significantly damaged.

The destroyed wooden structures reportedly housed makeshift shops and storage units.

Despite the extensive damage, adjoining buildings were successfully protected from the flames, thanks to the coordinated and aggressive firefighting efforts.

An official investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the fire.
