Fire destroys parts of Makola market

Firefighters are battling a fire outbreak at Makola in Accra, with multiple fire engines deployed to contain the situation.

The fire spread quickly through the business hub, destroying properties, including merchandise and other valuables belonging to traders.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said the Accra City Fire Station was the first to respond to the incident.

To reinforce efforts at the scene, three additional fire engines from the Ministries, Parliament, and Industrial Area fire stations have been dispatched.

According to the Service, a total of four fire engines are currently at the scene working to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established, and there is currently no information on casualties or the extent of damage caused.

Firefighters remain on site as containment and extinguishing operations continue.
