Ghana’s senior women’s national team, the Black Queens, have confirmed their final 24-player squad for the upcoming 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), scheduled to take place from July 5 to 26.
Head coach Lars Kim Björkegren has selected a balanced team featuring three goalkeepers, eight defenders, seven midfielders, and six forwards.
Notably, team captain Portia Boakye headlines the list, while midfielder Abigail Kofi Kim has been left out of the final selection.
Five players from the Ghana Women’s Premier League have earned spots in the squad: Kerrie McCarthy, Afi Amenyaku, Comfort Yeboah, Nancy Amoah, and Wasiima Mohammed.
Ghana will compete in Group C, which includes defending champions South Africa, as well as Mali and Tanzania.
This marks the Black Queens’ return to the continental tournament for the first time since 2018.
