The Black Princesses of Ghana booked their place in the next stage of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers with a commanding 4-0 aggregate victory over Tunisia.
In the return leg played on Sunday afternoon, Mercy Attobrah opened the scoring in the 37th minute after Ghana had squandered a couple of early opportunities.
Ivy Osei Owusu nearly doubled the lead with a brilliant solo effort, but her strike narrowly missed the target as the Princesses went into halftime with a slim advantage.
Head coach Charles Sampson’s tactical changes after the break paid off immediately. Substitute Agnes Yeboah made an instant impact, scoring with her very first touch in the 46th minute to extend Ghana’s lead.
Despite creating several more chances, the Princesses were unable to add to their tally, with Tunisia’s stubborn defense holding firm.
Nonetheless, the result sealed a 2-0 victory on the day, adding to their first-leg advantage to complete a 4-0 aggregate triumph.
Ghana will now face South Africa in February in the third round of the qualifiers as they continue their bid for a place at the U20 Women’s World Cup.
