More than 72,000 Telecel Ghana subscribers across parts of the Central Region are experiencing service disruptions following two fibre cuts along the Accra–Winneba and Winneba–Cape Coast routes.

Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, disclosed the disruption in a Facebook post, saying the incident had affected an estimated 72,754 subscribers connected to about 181 Radio Access Network (RAN) sites.

The affected communities span several parts of the region, including Winneba, Agona Swedru, Apam, Mankessim, Assin Fosu and Twifo Praso.

Other affected areas include Winneba Campus, Old Town, Lowcost, UEW North Campus, Radio Peace, Nyakrom, Kwanyako, Bobikuma, Agona Odoben and Mankrong.

Along the coastal and transit corridors, disruptions have also been reported in Mumford, Otuam, Gomoa Fetteh, Gomoa Nyanyano, Senya Beraku, Ajumako GT, Abeadze Dominase, Assin Manso and Ateiku.

Parts of the Kasoa–Weija border area have also been affected, including Awutu Bereku, Bawjiase, Potsin, Jei Krodua, Tuba, Weija Extension, New Weija, West Hills Mall, Dark Bortianor and Aplaku Bortianor.

Mr George attributed the damage to ongoing road construction works along the affected routes, saying a road contractor’s activities had caused the fibre cuts.

He said Telecel engineers were at the affected locations working to restore services, while a separate team was engaging the contractor to suspend excavation works and prevent further damage to the network infrastructure.

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience, but I am confident the engineers will restore service as quickly as is practical,” Mr George said.

The minister added that the National Communications Authority (NCA) would continue to monitor developments as efforts to restore connectivity proceed.
