Swiss outfit FC Zurich have officially announced the departure of Ghanaian forward Daniel Afriyie Barnieh following a mutual agreement to terminate his contract.
The 24-year-old joined the club in January 2023 from Ghana Premier League giants Hearts of Oak, signing a three-and-a-half-year deal.
However, his time in Switzerland has come to an early end.
Barnieh made 50 appearances across all competitions for Zurich, contributing two goals and four assists.
Despite the initial excitement surrounding his arrival, he found it difficult to establish himself as a regular starter during his stint with the club.
“FC Zurich announces that Ghanaian striker Daniel Afriyie is leaving the city-based club,” the club said in a statement.
“His contract has been terminated by mutual consent. FC Zurich thanks Daniel Afriyie for his commitment and wishes him all the best for the future.”
Now a free agent, Afriyie Barnieh is expected to explore new opportunities ahead of the upcoming season.
