Fashion designers in the Asutifi North District of the Ahafo Region have appealed to the government and Newmont Gold Ghana to construct a dedicated training centre to enhance skill development in the area.
Speaking during the graduation of 11 trainees at Kenyasi, Sarah Amoako, Founder of the Prescious Fashion Design Association, told Adom News that the absence of a training centre in the district is limiting opportunities for local designers. She explained that without such a facility, it is difficult to invite top designers from other areas to train them on new styles, putting them at a disadvantage compared to peers elsewhere.

According to her, a district like Asutifi North, which hosts Newmont and other subcontractors, should benefit from several developments, including a modernised fashion training centre. She also thanked the Member of Parliament, Dr. Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, for supporting the 11 graduands with sewing machines as startup tools to help improve their livelihoods.
Meanwhile, the President of the association, Kwadwo Rockson, urged the government to intensify support for youth involved in apprenticeships in the district.
He emphasised that equipping young people with skills is the best way to prevent them from engaging in social vices and called on authorities to invest more in youth development initiatives.
