The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kpando, Mr Killian Donkor, has expressed strong optimism about the progress of agriculture in the municipality, attributing the gains to policies and support systems implemented under the current NDC-led government.
Speaking in an interview with Adom News at the 41st National Farmers’ Day celebration held in Kpando today, the MCE said there has been “significant improvement in agricultural productivity, extension services, and farmer support programmes,” noting that the municipality is witnessing tangible results from national agricultural interventions.
According to him, enhanced access to inputs, increased engagement with extension officers, and deliberate investments in modern farming practices have positioned Kpando as one of the fast-growing agricultural hubs in the region.
He noted that the government’s commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector is not only boosting food security but also improving livelihoods across farming communities.
The MCE also highlighted the theme for the 2025 National Farmers’ Day celebration, “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future,” describing it as essential in reminding Ghanaians of the need to embrace local production and consumption to strengthen self-sufficiency and reduce dependency on foreign products and imports.
He further indicated that the Government of Ghana under the NDC has distributed a total of 1,000 bags of fertiliser to 1,000 farmers across the Hohoe Municipality, adding that more farm inputs are in the pipeline.
Mr Donkor commended farmers in the municipality for their hard work and resilience, describing them as the backbone of local development.
“Today’s celebration is not just to honour our farmers but to remind ourselves of the critical role agriculture plays in our economy. We must continue to support and empower our farmers to ensure sustained growth,” he stated.
The event brought together traditional leaders, agricultural officers, farmers’ associations, and community members, who joined in acknowledging outstanding farmers and agricultural workers for their contributions to food production and rural development.
As the municipality looks ahead, the MCE reaffirmed the assembly’s commitment to partnering with stakeholders to deepen agricultural progress and enhance productivity across all farming sectors.
