The President of the Concerned Farmers Association, Nana Oboadie Boateng Bonsu, has welcomed the government’s announcement of a new cocoa price, describing it as “good news for farmers.”
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Nana Oboadie expressed gratitude to all stakeholders, including the Finance Minister and Association, for their role in securing the increase.
“We are very happy about this update. Farmers must be grateful when the government does things like this for us. This is not politics, we must be genuine and clear,” he said.
However, Nana Oboadie cautioned that the bigger threat to cocoa production remains illegal mining (galamsey), which is destroying farmlands and water bodies.
“Those who abandoned cocoa for galamsey are now regretting. As farmers, we are doing our part, but government must intensify efforts to fight galamsey,” he added.
The Producer Price Regulatory Committee (PPRC) on Thursday announced that the producer price of cocoa for the 2025/2026 season has been raised from GH¢3,225 to GH¢3,625 per 64kg bag.
