A 43-year-old farmer has been remanded into prison custody by the Asante Abuakwa Circuit Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality for allegedly raping a deaf and mute woman in a bush.

Abdulai Yussif pleaded not guilty to the charge and is expected to reappear before the court, presided over by Rosemond Dodua Agyiri, on December 11.

Prosecuting, Police Detective Chief Inspector Samuel Kyei Baffour told the court that the 40-year-old victim, who lives with her grandmother at Afreseni near Mankranso in the Ahafo Ano South-West District, was attacked on July 14, 2025.

At about 10:00 a.m. on the said day, the victim was walking to her grandmother’s farm when she noticed the accused trailing her. She stepped aside to allow him to pass, but he allegedly grabbed her hand, dragged her into the bush, forcibly undressed her, and raped her.

After the act, the accused reportedly gave the victim GHS 200 and warned her not to disclose the incident. The victim went to the farm and informed her grandmother, who subsequently lodged a complaint with the Mankranso Police.

The accused was later arrested, and according to the prosecution, he admitted in his caution statement to raping the victim. He was charged after investigations and brought before the court.
